Weekend traffic toll climbs with nine deaths

The Minnesota weekend toll includes a Hutchinson man Ed ward Fitzloff 64 and a wife passenger killed when their car was struck by a westbound Great Northern freight at Litchfield crossing. Other victims include John L. Sievert Sr. 44 of St Paul and William Hedstroms from Dalbo alongside several other crashes and pedestrian deaths.

Thompson Accused in Wife Slaying for Insurance and Marriage Plans

In Minneapolis a jury heard opening statements in the first degree murder trial of attorney T Eugene Thompson accused of arranging his wife Carol Thompson's death to collect over 1 million in life insurance and to wed another woman. Prosecutor William Randall named Norman Mastrian as the intermediary who paid the killer and said Mastrian and Dick W C Anderson are charged with murder. Thompson, 35, is free on 100000 bond and the case may run for weeks.

Northern New England Snowstorm Widens Search for Hunter

A heavy storm blanketed northern New England with up to a foot of snow as it moved north toward Quebec. Grinnell Attorney Dies of Heart Attack at Game

W Palmer 67 an Oskaloosa attorney living in New Sharon collapsed from a heart attack in Grinnell Iowa while watching the Grinnell Carleton football game. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
