Hickel denies calls to resign and seeks cabinet role

Austin Soldier Dies in Vietnam Heroic Fall in Combat
Pfc Donald Riles, son of Mr and Mrs Howard Riles of Austin Route 5, was reported killed in Vietnam when he stepped on a land mine during a combat operation. He joined the infantry in 1969 and had been in Vietnam since March. A 1967 Austin High School graduate he also attended Austin Area Vocational Technical School. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Three School Board Members Elected In Austin
3,353 ballots cast as Mrs. Schrafel Wright and Norman Stuewer win three year terms or a one year unexpired seat. Wright toped with 2,279 votes, Schrafel 1,510, Stuewer 2,112, Collins 1,061. Voter turnout about 20 percent higher than 1969. Other candidates include Bryan Toney 1,055, Mrs. Myers 832, Petersdorf 631. Stuewer pledged to serve without radical changes and to support stable educational needs.
