Spokesmen for ABC CBS and NBC announced Nixon's news conference will be carried live tonight on radio and television starting at 10 p.m. EDT.
Republican governors facing campus upheaval and national unrest cancel their Santa Fe gathering. The group plans to meet President Nixon at the White House instead, citing the crisis and violence nationwide as reasons to drop the conference. Only seven governors attend before leaving.
President Nixon schedules a 10 p.m. EDT televised briefing amid a mass antiwar rally in Washington. Tens of thousands are expected to converge on Lafayette Square near the White House, with security plans centering on a demilitarized zone and possible local force involvement.
Peter Keating, 24, of Rochester Minnesota, was killed when a station wagon rear ended a truck on a road from Salina Cruz to Oaxaca. Three companions were injured! Keating had worked as an associate planner for Olmsted County before studying at Harvard and was on vacation with friends.
The University of Minnesota will suspend classes today and one day each week for the remainder of the school year to study U.S. policy in Southeast Asia. The policy action stems from Nixon’s Cambodia decision and recent student protests. Faculty may base grades on work completed prior to this week. Macalester College also excused seniors from study to participate in protests. Police arrested 89 from St Olaf and Carleton colleges on federal warrants for sit in at the Federal Office Building.
FBI Director J Edgar Hoover told a House committee that law enforcement was not to blame for confrontations with the Black Panther Party. He warned against propaganda by the Panthers while noting a federal probe continues into two December Panther killings by Chicago police.
Five American soldiers from the 3rd Battalion 8th Infantry 4th Division faced potential court martial after refusing a combat assault into Cambodia amid heavy resistance at a Cambodian landing zone. Across the nation 227 colleges and universities closed in protests against the Vietnam War and the Kent State shootings, with classes interrupted nationwide. Democratic leaders urged networks to broadcast a foreign policy speech responding to the Nixon administration's Cambodia actions.
Vice President Spiro Agnew says the Ohio National Guard killing four Kent State students was murder if guardsmen fired without warning and without being fired upon. He told David Frost the act was not first degree but murder in heat of anger.

Washington AP The 8th U S Court of Appeals judges quit sitting in cases with any hint of conflict after Senate rejection of Judge Haynsworth. The move clears the way for Nixon’s nominee Judge Blackmun. Chief Judge Van Oosterhout said all judges removed themselves from matters with even a minor financial stake, including Blackmun of Rochester Minnesota.

Fred H. Harrington resigned today as president of the University of Wisconsin amid four days of violent antiwar demonstrations. He will become a history professor effective Oct. 1, saying the move came during a time of crisis as police and National Guardsmen patrolled a tear gas shrouded campus after arson vandalism and looting tied to protests over Cambodia and the Kent State killings. Firefighters fought 40 to 45 blazes across buildings sites barricades and other structures.
