Barbara Jimenez, 22, Mankato State College student, found dead in Scotch Lake area after hitchhiking from Emporia to Mankato. Husband Michael Jimenez, 24, was killed about two weeks earlier near Smiths Mill. Authorities pursue leads. no arrests made.
Preliminary figures from Minnesota show fewer than one per cent of farmland controlled by non family corporations. 617 corporate owners registered under the 1973 Family Farm Act, owning or leasing 531,756 acres of a 30.6 million acre state.
AP Newsfeatures reports soprano Anna Motto will open the Osaka Festival in Japan and tour for a month, dedicating herself to classical music. In Pine County near Cloverdale Minnesota a missing New Brighton girl Christine Hanson age 4 is the focus of a wide scale search. The area around Lake Wallace bog near Cloverdale is being combed with Pine County Sheriff John Kozisek reporting National Guard units three ATVs planes including a helicopter and many volunteers aiding the operation. The search had paused overnight and resumed at first light.
Archaeologists on Thera uncover a miniature frieze showing a punitive voyage by the Aegean fleet against a Libyan city dating about 3,500 years ago. In a separate note, 175,000 microwave ovens were sold in 1973.

James W. Johnson, 36, charged with kidnapping and extortion in the abduction of Eunice Kronholm, remains in stable condition after a head gunshot on Interstate 35W near Burnsville. Prosecutors say Kronholm, 46, was abducted at her home and later walked free after ransom payment.
