Christy Olsen, 27, farming 4% miles north of Lansing, was named Austin's outstanding farmer by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He rents a 240 acre farm from his father, raises hogs, cattle, and alfalfa on a five year rotation, and credits veterans staff and mentors for guidance.
At Greenville Air Force Base a C46 broke from its moorings during warmup and rolled into a jet trainer, killing Ist. Lt. Rupert M. Pierce. Four airmen were injured as the C46 then struck a snack bar and caught fire. 18 people in the snack bar escaped unharmed. Lt. Col. John Chick identified Pierce and noted a crew chief suffered a fractured shoulder while others were on the flight line.
In the House of Commons Prime Minister Churchill said prospects for a four power parley have brightened though heads of government have not agreed to a summit conference. He dodged a Labor question about personal participation and hinted at retirement amid uncertainty about the future.
Fire swept the third floor of a Mill City apartment early today injuring four residents and six firefighters. Marvin Brathall, 38, unconscious in his room, was carried out by firemen and listed in poor condition at General Hospital. The other injured occupants and firemen suffered smoke inhalation and heat effects.
The Bureau of Public Roads estimated Iowa highway construction needs through 1964 at 2.487 billion dollars. All but 382 million of the total would fund rural and intercity routes outside towns and cities.

The four Doty brothers from Bruno Minnesota Joel 28 Orin 27 Paul 26 and Sid 25 are to begin a new two year federal prison term for failure to report for military service. This marks a second set of prison sentences within five years for draft law violations following prior 1951 convictions for failure to register.

John Solik 53 of Davenport died when his Merchants Motor Freight semi collided with an Illinois Central gondola at the Highway 218 crossing four miles north of St Ansgar. The truck struck the car, the cab and trailer separated, and Solik's body was recovered after hours of debris removal. Train service paused while crews repaired damaged track. no inquest to be held.
Nine insurgent inmates at Nebraska State Penitentiary press for surrender of themselves and two guards as hunger and isolation mount. Governor Anderson says guards safe and no cached food in maximum security building while in a note exchange the convicts demand three hot meals daily and other reforms.
