Colton Wreck Kills Dozens After Open Switch Disaster
A Southern Pacific collision near Colton California killed at least twenty six and left about 160 injured when westbound No 9 hit an open switch at forty miles per hour. Most dead were Italian passengers from New York and New Orleans. Ten released details note engineers jumped to escape and a derrick from Los Angeles was needed to raise a crushed coach.
