Summer theatre stars rise with college help and work ethic
Bill Bjerke, a St. John’s University chemistry major, earns the lead opposite Bonnie Christianson in Summerset Theatre’s Oklahoma. Both juggle rehearsals and night shifts at Owatonna Manufacturing Co, keeping up a busy summer of acting, singing, and work. Bonnie, a French major set to attend Hamline University, plays Laurie and shares praise for director Mary Graff. The pair, previous Austin High performers, balance costumes and stagecraft with daytime studies and summer jobs as they prepare for further theatre.

Women’s Society Luncheon at Grace Baptist Church
The Women’s Society of Grace Baptist Church gathered Wednesday for a dessert luncheon at the church. Assistant pastor Nelson Pardee spoke on the History of Missions. Mrs. Ben Krull reported on a missionary conference in Morristown Minnesota. Cheryl Hanson and Cheryl Bjorklund sang and Hanson played guitar. Mrs. Roger Larson led the closing prayer.

Warren Severtsen owner of Severtsen’s IGA Market in Brownsdale won the men’s division in the Mower County Pork Producers outdoor pork cookery contest. Dale Lamp 16 of Grand Meadow won junior division with Pork Terriyaki. Michael Schneider of Adams was senior runner-up with Barbecued Pork Chops.
