American Company Loses 76 Men in Central Highlands Clash
In Dak To, 270 miles north of Saigon, an American infantry company from the 173rd Airborne Brigade suffered 76 killed and 24 wounded after a seven hour crossfire with North Vietnamese forces. The unit, largely new replacements, faced a trap on a forested ridgeline as two lead platoons were isolated. Air strikes were limited. B52s bombed the area as helicopters and fighter-bombers supported remaining troops.
