Indianapolis aviator Brookins nears altitude record in Wright biplane

Walter Brookins rose to 3700 feet in 24 minutes at the Indianapolis speedway in a Wright biplane while attempting the aeroplane altitude record. An initial altimeter read 5000 feet, later corrected to 8700 feet by an aneroid barometer. flight duration reached 54 minutes.

Good Roads Convention Gathers Montana Delegates in Billings

Delegates arrive from across Montana for the state good roads convention in Billings. At the opening session Lewistown’s Harry Yeager was elected temporary chairman as speeches followed at the leading theater. The gathering aims to educate farmers on road improvement materials and push legislation enabling county bonds for road building. Curtis Hill of Missouri spoke on convict labor on state roads.

Conference Planned on Lords Veto Dispute

London reports a tentative agreement to hold a conference on the Lords veto question. Cattle shipments reach South Dakota from Texas and Mexico

Train loads of cattle move into the southwest of South Dakota from Texas and Mexico. Marmarth reports 3000 dead cattle arrived with 4000 more expected. Other towns along the Milwaukee extension are also receiving large Texas cattle shipments.

Fire destroys B. B. elevator district in McGregor

Fire leveled the B. B. elevator power house brewery bottling works and three residences in McGregor Iowa. Coal sheds and several cars also burned. Loss estimated at $60,000. All traffic on the Dubuque division halted until tracks are cleared of debris.
