The draft lists Cuban reciprocity as one of the remaining measures along with the Tondon dock charge bill and the pure food bill. Lawmakers expect the Cuban committee to report by midweek and agree that without the Cuban bill the session could adjourn soon after the canal bill is settled.
A Sunday afternoon electric storm hit Chicago injuring none of the Sunday school children seriously. Three churches were struck including Memorial German Episcopal which was destroyed. Calvary Presbyterian in West Congress and Forty second street saw the bolt tear through the ceiling causing a panic. One steeple of the Lady of Sorrows was demolished. Joseph Killian was killed while resting in a fisherman's hut by Lake Calumet and many others were shocked.
Washington reports Admiral Dewey will fly his flag again as commander of a large United States fleet formed from the North Atlantic European and South Atlantic squadrons. The fleet will assemble near Culebra in the West Indies next December for winter maneuvers. Moody plans the arrangement after consulting Dewey. London dispatch notes Vatican cardinals largely favor Philippines church regulation aligned with former Spanish rule, with Cardinal Vennatelli as the exception.
Manila reports say five Fifth Cavalry soldiers captured May 38 near Teresa Morong Luzon may have been killed by insurgents though not confirmed by American authorities. Insurgents in Sa Mar pledged allegiance to the United States after battle with General Lukban.
The report notes that tenders of insuréénis have occurred daily within the native constabulary.
President Palma and General Gomez rejected a U S report that Gomez took a 25000 bribe to withdraw from the Cuban race and back Palma. Palma spoke for Gomez who was present as the two men called the accusation an affront to their honesty and integrity.
Henry C. Ide of the Philippine commission received a printers petition asking salaries be paid in gold or other stable currency. He believes their complaints may be relieved as they are currently paid in Mexican silver. The Manila chamber of commerce presented resolutions to General Chaffee praising the army and its officers.
Washington reports the senate will meet at 6 p.m. daily through Thursday to debate the Isthmian canal bill. Numerous remarks are expected before the vote and amendments. Supporters of the Panama route voice confidence in Spooner bill. other measures may be considered if time permits.
The body of John George Newland aged 35 from Minneapolis was found in an Exchange street hotel with a bullet wound to the head. He had been dead several hours and the room door was locked from the inside. Bank books showing balances in Kansas City and other Western banks were found among his effects.
Milwaukee June 16 trustees of the University of Wisconsin will announce that J W Bashford president designate. Bashford head of Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware chosen to succeed Charles Kendall Adams and return to his alma mater.

Two factories will be built next year with the rest the following year in Watertown Ka ukuna Beaver Dam Chippewa Falls Green Bay Oconto Racine Janesville and Dorchester.
In Charleston W V on June 16 mining is expected to resume in the Kanawha and New River districts and Elkhorn region. The Kanawha and Hocking company announces semi monthly pay days and concessions and general resumption is anticipated along the Kanawha and Michigan railway. Strike leaders show great activity as G S Purcell moves in with Presidential authority for the WV strike direction.
