Barn Fire Destroys Dave Lorenzen Farm Structures
A large wooden barn and a pole shed on the Dave Lorenzen farm south of Grand Meadow burned Thursday evening. Forty three Holstein cows three heifers and a bull perished or were severely burned along with 2000 bales of straw and 300 bales of hay. Sparks from wet straw and a south wind started the blaze. firefighters from Grand Meadow and Spring Valley kept it under control.

Miss Knutson Selected for All State Lutheran Choir Tour
Barbara Knutson daughter of Rev and Mrs G C Knutson of 1607 2nd Ave NW was named to Minnesota’s All State Lutheran Choir. The 45 member group trained at Deerwood camp rehearsing six to eight hours daily before a ten day tour through Wisconsin Iowa North Dakota and Minnesota. Acting director Yoshiteru Murakami of South High Fargo directs. Appearances include Decorah Iowa June 19 and Northfield June 22.

Robert McCumber of Mankato was arraigned in county court on a felonious theft charge after allegedly renting a car from Holiday Dodge and not returning it. He was arrested June 13 on a Mower County warrant and held in $1,000 bail.

Riceville Man Hurt In Rural Highway Mishap
A Riceville man was injured in a highway accident five and a half miles west of Riceville on Highway 9. Dean Dishinger, 35, Riceville Route 1, was taken to Mitchell County Memorial Hospital and later transferred in critical condition to St. Marys Hospital Rochester after being ejected from his car during the curve and shoulder departure.
