Rosalie Seltz reports University of Minnesota extension 4-H introduces a self-guided arts and crafts manual by Miss Wylen Fredericksen. The project teaches drawing painting modeling carving printing and puppet making using common household items and step by step illustrations to inspire creativity in children and 4-H members. The program aims to broaden art understanding and cross cultural awareness while making art fun and accessible. A leader's guide accompanies the manual and a preliminary workshop in St Paul introduced the unit to county agents and leaders.

Sheriff Reports One Car Accident outside Austin
Mower County Sheriff Carmen Halstenson reported a one car accident Friday night near Austin. At 8:45 p.m. William Charles Wagner of Blooming Prairie Rt.3 drove into a ditch at 8th Ave SW and 24th St SW. Damages were listed at $250 with no injuries.

Mapleview Man Pleads Guilty in Burglary Case
Stephen Anderson 21 pleaded guilty in District Court to burglary for a break in at Norgaard Interstate 66 Service on May 12. Entry was gained through a broken window and $60 in cash was taken. Judge Warren F. Plunkett ordered a presentence investigation. Philip Richardson served as Anderson’s court appointed lawyer and Wallace Lieh represented the state.

Austin Police Chief Robert Nelson said two Friday crashes caused no injuries. At 5:08 p.m. Candis Hegna and Doug Marsden collided at 10th St SW and 6th Ave SW with $150 and $175 damages. A second crash 350 feet south of 11th Ave NW on Main St N involved Donald Lavallie and Margaret Rockers with $70, $50 damages.

Twin Cities area contestants dominate the field with Miss Roseville Deborah Kath and Miss St. Anthony Mary Williams among the final entrants. Deborah Kath, 19, daughter of Robert and Betty Kath, studies elementary education at the University of Minnesota and once drew attention for hot air ballooning.
