Marvin Stern, 24, was found dead in Springfield Minnesota after smoking in bed caused smoldering bed clothes. The Brown County coroner ruled asphyxia accidental with no investigation, noting Stern likely crawled toward a window for air before collapsing.

In Brown Valley Minnesota crews searched Lake Traverse for the bodies of Leo Doty 40 and his son David amid a fishing boat capsizing that killed seven. Recovered earlier were Beverly Hout 11 Lewis Doty 11 Leslie Hout 41 Karen 14 and Edward 8 with survivors sent to Hawarden Iowa for burial.
