Austin Council Amends City Swim Pool Ordinance
The Austin City Council approved amending the city code to restrict pools in residential areas to accessory use only, require 10 feet from property lines, 20 feet for pumps and heaters, and a five foot wall or fence to prevent child access. Objection from Tom Kough, who runs a home swimming school, argued it would end his business and affect workers. City and Alderman discussions suggested possible use of Ellis Pool or moving operations to a commercial area, with cost concerns noted.
