Rochester Judge Rules Miss Morey Entitled to About 40000

After over five years Edith Morey vs. the Austin School Board concluded with Judge O Russell Olson ruling the teacher entitled to base salary plus six percent interest for 54 months and 422.82 for medical benefits. The contract remains in force. increments were not mandatory. The board may deduct taxes and retirement contributions.

Two Die as Plane Crashes on Farm Near Boone Iowa

Two men died when a Moo ney Mark 20 light plane crashed into a cornfield eight miles north of Boone Iowa. The victims were Daniel Charles Kellen 27 and Jess David McPherson 24 both of Ames. The plane owned by Flight Line Inc. of Ames was on an instructional flight.

Copters Complete First Nonstop Transatlantic Flight

Two U S helicopters completed history making nonstop flight across the Atlantic covering 4270 miles in 30 hours 48 minutes. State Traffic Toll In Minnesota Rises With New Fatalities

The Associated Press reports two more traffic deaths in Minnesota increasing the year total to 292. Gene Fischer 20 of St Joseph died when his car left Highway 52 near St Joseph. passenger Richard Reischl 20 injured. Robert Schwegel 17 not injured. Edward V Oberg 54 of Biwabik died in a collision on Highway 135 near Aurora. Tony G Skerbitz 60 of Aurora hospitalized with skull injuries. Other victims include John H Koehneke 45 of Kalamazoo Michigan and family members in Cannon Falls and Red Wing incidents.

Carpenters Strike Shuts Down Mankato Projects

Carpenters local 1464 went on strike in Mankato Minnesota halting work on four Mankato State College buildings a new vocational technical school and sites at Bethany College. Pickets line the four building sites and two church projects as pay talks continue. The union seeks 25 cents hourly raise plus 15 cents for health and fringe benefits while contractors offer 15 cents now 15 next year and 20 in year three.

3% Sales Tax Faces Second Veto Override Bid

ST PAUL AP Gov Harold LeVander vetoed the 3 percent Minnesota sales tax bill as expected, prompting a second override attempt within 12 days. The House planned an afternoon vote after caucusing, with the Senate needing 45 votes to override. LeVander urged tax reform without a sales tax or a referendum. The bill would start Aug 1 and raise about 160 million annually plus 73 million from surpluses, offsetting property taxes and funding municipalities with per capita aids to Minneapolis, St Paul, Duluth and others.

Kitzer Testifies Magnusson Indebted in Save of Firm

Phillip Kitzer Jr testified in U S District Court that Minnesota Insurance Commissioner Cyrus Magnusson became indebted to him when Kitzer saved American Allied Insurance Co of St Paul. He bought American Allied Mutual for 21009 in 1963 and reinsured via his Illinois company. Magnusson allegedly opposed reinsuring a mutual with a non Minnesota licensed firm. Jury instructions were debated as the trial progressed.

Man and Wife Die in Collision Near Ruskin Nebraska

An Iowa couple, Raymond Hammond 69 and Louise Agnes Hammond 62 of Oelwein, were killed when their car collided with a semitrailer on U S 186 near Ruskin. The truck driver, Dean Bartley of Red Cloud, was hospitalized at Hastings.

Eight-Month Decline in Farm Prices Reverses

Washington AP The Agriculture Department reports a two percent May rise in farm prices from mid April to mid May, ending an eight month decline. Meat animal prices up ten percent offset drops in cotton eggs lettuce and tomatoes. June could bring further gains.

ICC Rejects Consolidation of RR Proceedings

Interstate Commerce Commission rejected proposals to merge two railroad merger cases saying consolidation would serve no useful purpose at this time. The two cases involve Chicago and North Western with Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific, and the Rock Island case with several railroads including Union Pacific Southern Pacific and Atchison Topeka Santa Fe. The petitions were filed by Soo Line Railway Labor Executives Association Wisconsin Public Service Commission City of Omaha and some railroads.

Dogs Killing Sheep Near Hayfield Report

Dodge County sheriff reports multiple complaints of dogs killing sheep about four to five miles southeast of Hayfield. One gray German Shepherd captured. a long haired red dog with a collar believed missing. Call the sheriff's office with any information.
