Drownings in Two Minnesota Boating Accidents
A Minnesota man and an Iowa tourist died in separate boating accidents Friday night. Archie Gran, 44, of Kettle River drowned when his boat overturned on Bear Lake near Barnum as it turned sharply. Carlton County rescuers pulled his companions to safety. Gran's death followed a failed swim to shore. The second fatality, Richard Myers, 30, of Harlan, Iowa, capsized while pulling an anchor on Marion Lake near Perham. a resort worker witnessed the event and helped, but Myers could not be revived after body recovery by Perham firefighters. Perham is in Otter Tail County.

An apparently near sighted bear caused havoc in International Falls by crashing through two glass panes and tangling curtains while trying to swipe African violets mistook for blueberries. The incident woke Mr and Mrs H T Francis at their home Friday.

Rare Brain Infection Faces 13-Year-Old in Dayton
In Dayton Ohio AP report a 13-year-old boy Donald Knee from Phillipsburg suffers a brain infection driving his fever to at least 110 degrees. Doctors at Good Samaritan Hospital have in jected a million units of penicillin every two hours while he remains in a semicoma under ice. An operation was performed to clear the infection believed caused by a rare blood clot at the brain base.

Cmdr. Malcolm Ross and M. Lee Lewis soared in a plastic balloon to about 79,500 feet over Brainerd and northwestern Minnesota.
