Trains collided with a stray coal car near Xenia Ohio killing engineer Clark and his fireman. A Pullman sleeper burned with three passengers dead. A separate crash near South Omaha killed fireman Victor Hickson and injured two express messengers. The Chicago Denver flyer derailed after spreading rails. passengers were shaken but uninjured.
Rock Island passenger train No. 5 bound west from Chicago wrecked near South Omaha Nebraska on July 25 damaging cars and injuring several aboard as crews investigated the cause at the scene.
The Couda wreck on the Ohio and Little Kanawha trestle sent the rear coach off a forty foot drop at thirty miles an hour. About thirty passengers were aboard. Dead include Miss Gertrude Sherwood of Roxbury and A. J. Rathbun of Columbus. County Commissioner W E Lighthiser of Morgan county dies. Several others are fatally injured and many more are in dangerous condition including Charles Bailey of Marietta and Mrs H H Portal of Columbus.
A train on the Ontario and Western Ellenville branch near Spring Glen was derailed by a washout while rounding a curve. The engine, passenger coach, and combination car left the rails. six passengers in the combination car sustained injuries, none seriously.
The pope grants Mrs J W Mackay permission for private services over her husband who died last Sunday at home. A memorial service is set at the Church of St Peter and St Edward Buckingham Gate next Monday or Tuesday.

State Auditor Dunn reports discovery of an iron mine with 10,000,000 tons of ore on Hibbing area school lands in St Louis County. The mine sits west of Hibbing in section 12 township 27 range 21. Leases are held by John B. Morrow of Duluth and partners. ore quality is good and royalty could greatly boost the state educational fund.
In Greenville Massachusetts a long standing feud between Edward Schrawber and Neal Conley ended in a street duel. More than fifty shots were fired as Captain Quinn and Officer Burns tried to quell the fight. Conley was dead, Burns gravely wounded, Schrawber and Quinn seriously wounded.
A Palmer House conference in Chicago involved Mayor A. A. Ames of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ames with Fred Ames. The arrival from West Baden, Indiana, included a letter of introduction and the hotel manager was told the guest was Dr. Ames. It was not until evening that guests were publicly identified.
In a letter to the Earl of Durham Commodore Lambton laments the king’s appearance as the Victoria and Albert sails. A royal council is planned aboard the yacht next Saturday with cabinet appointments expected to be announced then or shortly after.
