Fleet Admiral Daniel Leahy Dies at 84 in Bethesda

Admiral of the Fleet William Daniel Leahy, wartime chief of staff to President Roosevelt, died at Bethesda Naval Hospital at age 84 from a cerebral vascular accident. A native of Hampton Iowa, Leahy began service in 1897 and fought in four wars before serving as CNO and later as Puerto Rico governor and ambassador to France.

Two Men Drown in Twin City Area Lakes

Sunday saw two drownings in Twin City area lakes. Robert H. Niles, 28, of St. Paul, disappeared while swimming at White Bear Lake. a five foot deep water recovery followed and autopsy ruled drowning. Leroy Milton Fehling, 23, of Minne tonka drowned at Lake Minnetonka after falling from a dock. bystander Dick Hughes, 18, pulled him from the water but failed to revive him.
