Three Charged in Attempt to Dynamite Negro College

Federal case links a dynamite plot to disrupt Philander Smith College and integrate schooling. Arrested are Emmett E. Miller 44, Robert Lloyd Parks 38, both of West Memphis, and Hugh Lynn Adams 33 of Bassett Arkansas. The three face federal charges under the Civil Rights Act of 1960.

Toll Reaches 311 in Minnesota Traffic Toll Rise

Albert Lea stock car driver Ger ald Brun, 27, died after his car left a street near Albert Lea, struck a pole and rolled. John A. Kraus, 45, of New Ulm, died from injuries after a June collision. The toll climbs to 311 with a Florida visitor among Monday fatalities and several other crashes leading to additional deaths.

Dreher Held Under Bond in Fairmont

Robert Dreher a 17 year old from Emmetsburg Iowa was held on 75000 bond after pleading not guilty to first degree murder and robbery in the killing and holdup of Roy Brockman a 55 year old Fairmont filling station attendant on June 5 District Judge L J Irvine did not set a trial date Dreher remained in jail with 50000 bond for the murder and 25000 for the robbery

Slayton Bears Brunt of Severe Storms and Damage

A violent windstorm struck southwest Minnesota with 2.9 inches of rain in 40 minutes and possible twisters. Trees toppled, roofs damaged, water and power cut, and the Slayton area isolated as NSP crews race to restore electricity by noon. Nearby Worthington saw 60 mph winds and heavy crop loss but no fatalities.

Kenyon School Board Deadlock Over Chairman Choice

Kenyon Minnesota. The board of education stayed deadlocked 3-3 on electing a chairman. Two factions fought over E. W. Luebke and John Kispert as the top choice. An attorney was asked to obtain an opinion to unravel the organizational knot. A Wednesday meeting was set amid a $795,000 bond issue hold up by the stalemate.

Nockleby In Serious Condition After Abdominal Bleed

Chester F. Nockleby office personnel manager at Geo A Hormel Co was listed in very serious condition after a ruptured blood vessel in the abdomen. He had the attack at his home 311 8th St SW and was taken to St Marys Hospital Rochester by Austin Ambulance Service. Dr Tracy Barber of Hormel medical staff stayed with him through the night.
