Six young men from Bangor and Need drowned when the sloop Ruth E. Cummock capsized off Castine after a squall while seven invited guests rode to Isleboro. Only L D Hall survived after swimming for 45 minutes to a tug. Victims were Harry Dugan Amos Robinson Raymond Smith Frederick Ringwall Royal Palmer and William Wague. The party had been at the Hersey Retreat at Sandy Point.
