Blairsville Train Wreck Leaves Engineer Dead

The Blairsville accommodation train on the West Penn railroad sidewiped a freight car at Willow Grove. Engineer 8S. B. Taylor was fatally injured and six passengers were seriously hurt in the wreck near Pittsburg on July 10.

South Dakota Farm Census Values Released

The census bulletin lists 52,622 farms in South Dakota in 1900 valued at $220,132,190 covering 19,070,616 acres about 39 percent of the state. Livestock valued at $65,173,482 and machinery at $12,218,680 bring farm property to $297,695,302. 1899 farm products valued at $66,082,419 with $21,906,804 from livestock products.

Improvement Plans For Three Indian Schools In Dakotas

Plans at the Indian office allocate over 100000 for Fort Totten Rapid City and Chamberlain schools. Heating systems and sewer extensions at Fort Totten cost 25000 with 40000 planned for Rapid City and 40000 for Chamberlain. Completion expected in the coming fall.

Des Moines Telephone Strike Ends

Des Moines July 10 The operators strike against two telephone companies began June 20 ends if an agreement with the advisory committee of the trades assembly is carried out. Companies concede a minimum $1 a day, recognize the Operators union and restore strikers to their former positions. Workers had earned $3.50 to $5 a week.
