British heir may inherit millions to dodge taxes

Boy suffers severe facial injuries from firecracker blast

Ronald Weme, 7, was badly cut when a firecracker he threw into a glass of water exploded. The Duluth child, son of Mr and Mrs Edward Weme, faced possible loss of eyesight.

Fourth of July traffic toll tops 271 deaths in 54 hour weekend

The nation counted 271 highway deaths and 70 drownings in a 54 hour Fourth of July period ending Sunday midnight. Officials said the toll surpassed the 1953 two day record but fell well short of the Safety Council's 3530 estimate, amid 45 million cars on the highways and 25 percent more miles driven.

Elizabeth II Cheered by Thousands in Chicago Visit

Queen Elizabeth II landed in Chicago aboard Britannia and began a 13 hour day of engagements amid a sea of guards, ships, and cheering crowds. Prince Philip accompanied her as 28 warships lined Lake Michigan and officials welcomed the royal party at the harbor. The couple toured the International Trade Fair while fans and city leaders praised the visit.

Kozlov Ends Coast Visit on Tour Stop in Detroit

Soviet premier deputy Frol Kozlov concludes California visit amid praise from business circles and limited public reception, then heads to Detroit. He toured Berkeley and Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, dined at Bohemian Grove, and accepted a Western movie image with a concealed gun.

Joists Put in Place for Airport Building

The first steel joists for the new airport administration building were set today. Ozark Airlines will start service to Austin on a north south route 30 days after city completion of the administration building, per Mayor Baldy Hansen. Delays on completion were caused by a construction strike heavy rains and late steel deliveries. No completion date is set.

Hayfield Trucker Dies After Crash

A rural Hayfield milk hauler, Fart Thoe, died after a collision on Highway 30 east of Hayfield with a Blooming Prairie Cooperative hauler driven by Paul Ingvalson. Both trucks overturned and spilled milk. Thoe died about 9 30 am at St Olaf Hospital.

Woman Diabetic Throws Away Insulin and Dies

Wanda Beach a 37 year old woman from Stanton Michigan and a lifelong diabetic traveled to Detroit to attend Oral Roberts services. After attending Friday and Saturday night she told motel residents she was cured and discarded her insulin. She fell ill Sunday and died in a Detroit hospital from a diabetic coma.

Soviet space dogs return safely as rocket study continues

Moscow said a geophysical rocket carrying two dogs Otchaynaya and Snezhinka and a rabbit was launched July 2 to study the upper atmosphere. The animals and instruments returned safely, in good condition, with data on weightlessness and atmospheric composition.

Six Killed in Minnesota Traffic Toll Rises

The Associated Press reports six people died in Minnesota traffic crashes today and over the July 4 holiday weekend. Toll climbs to 280 for the year, four fewer than last year. Victims include Lyle DeGroat of Calloway in a crash near Little Falls and Richard Mikkelson of Osakis the prior Sunday.
