Hormel weighs new Austin plant as costs loom
Hormel and Co. President I. J. Holton told 1100 stockholders in the Austin High School auditorium that surveys indicate it would cost more than 30 million dollars to upgrade the existing plant to meet government standards. He favors a new facility operated without incentives and noted talks with labor representatives. Holton added that first quarter 1976 earnings could struggle to match 1975 due to hog shortages and startup costs at Ottumwa and Houston.
