Tenants Flee After Blast and Fire in Chicago Building

A South Side four story apartment building suffered a blast and rapid fire early today. In the scramble to escape, many children were dropped from windows. one infant was killed and at least six other children unaccounted for. Twenty one people were injured, including nine children. a man is missing. Fire officials cited 150 occupants in 27 units and noted no immediate link to a gasoline fuel oil mixture.

Liquor Store Crashed By Car In Broad Daylight

A car without a driver burst from a service station, crossed Franklin and Bridge, and smashed into Bill's Drive-in Liquor Store. More than 100 quart bottles spilled, liquor loss estimated at 800 dollars. Day of Walt and Art's Mobile Service picked up the car from its owner Jerome Wesley and serviced it before the incident. Police and bystanders helped remove the car. storefront was boarded up, owners Bill and Jack OShaughnessy cleaned glass remnants.
