Chicago’s Jack White learned a decision over Tommy Gary in the seventh round at the National Athletic Club in Milwaukee. White repeatedly hammered Gary with lefts and a late left uppercut left Gary groggy. referee halted the bout to prevent a knockout.
In Mitchell South Dakota on February 25 Judge Frank B. Smith granted Mrs Irene Kreuger a decree of absolute divorce. She receives 45000 and custody of their child. The grounds were adultery linked to the earlier arrest of Kreuger and Mrs Beebe at a hotel. Kreuger and Beebe were bound over to April term on 2000 bonds and may face criminal charges not pursued by Mrs Kreuger.
Sacramento California February 25 The senate approved the Gates constitutional amendment by 36 to 4 to recall all elective officers. An amendment removing the judiciary failed 29 to 11.
Washington February 25 The senate ratified the new Japanese treaty of trade and navigation after a two hour executive session amid worries that it could affect Coolie labor. Senators expressed concern but offered no objections, calling the ratification a strong sign of cordial U S relations and trust in Japan's civilization. President Taft also sent a proposed constitution for the new State of Mexico to Congress with a message urging ratification.
Washington officials of the interstate commerce commission review the unanimous ruling on railroad rate cases dated February 25. The commission did not order any rate reductions and kept rates in the long standing official classification territory for over twenty years. Miss Matilda Hermsmeier, 45, was found dead in her kitchen in Marshalltown Iowa from a head wound. Relatives discovered her body strewn in a pool of blood and the murder weapon was not located. She lived alone near Baxter in Jasper county south of the Hardy neighborhood.
