Austin Pacelli Shamrocks defeated Lourdes 57 to 46 to win the Region 5 title and advance to the State Catholic basketball tournament. Pacelli had earlier ousted Faribault Bethlehem Academy 59 to 33 as Lourdes eliminated Owaton na Marians 57 to 45. It marks Pacelli’s first regional crown since 1950 under coach Marty Crowe.

Woman With No Smell Dies In Minnesota House Fire
Robbinsdale widow Florence Eastman, 80, who recently lost her sense of smell, perished in a Sunday blaze that destroyed her home. Her son Robert returned about 5 am and found flames erupting after opening the door. Fire officials traced the fire to the bedroom where Eastman was found. a pet dog also died.
Frondizi Wins Argentina Presidency Backed by Peronists
Arturo Frondizi, a left wing Radical backed by supporters of banished dictator Juan Peron, won Argentina's first free presidential election in a decade. He led over Ricardo Balbin as returns from most precincts favored his broad coalition, with 678,377 blanks. Frondizi pledges amnesty for all Peronists and plans a general amnesty law with the new Congress. Peron hailed Frondizi’s victory from exile in the Dominican Republic.

Schroeder Files For Third Ward Alderman Seat

Traffic Toll Reaches 73 in Minnesota
A suburban Minneapolis man, Richard E. Peterson, 40, was added to Minnesota’s annual traffic toll, bringing the state total to 73. Two other fatal accidents occurred over the weekend near Rochester and southwest of Minneapolis. Beverly Brown, 18, died when her car overturned on Highway 169, with three others injured. In Rochester area a six-vehicle crash near mile east of the city claimed Fredrick W. Bunch, 37, and injured six others. A hit-and-run in Minneapolis left Paul F. Pearson, 22, hospitalized in fair condition.

A fire destroyed a log cabin at Ena, 25 miles north of Kenora, Ont. Early Sunday, two adults and three children perished in the blaze. Authorities investigated the cause as neighbors offered aid to survivors.

Coroner Post Is Assigned to Dr Stahl in Austin
Mower County Board named Dr. George Stahl to succeed Dr. H M Fisch as coroner on March 1. Fisch resigned Feb 14 citing other obligations. Stahl, a Sheboygan native, was deputy coroner since 1954 and is an Austin physician with UW Madison training in urology.
