Jimmy Smith, 20, in a coma since March 30, 1952 after a severe brain injury in a car crash. Doctors say this is among the longest complete comas on record with only reflex movements. His mother stays by him, calling it a miracle if recovery occurs.

Agreement reached late Tuesday on a contract for St. Cloud bus drivers ends the midnight strike threat. A 3 cent per hour raise retroactive to Dec 1 1955, plus another 3 cents March 15, brings pay to 1.45 per hour. A 2 man citizens committee helped negotiate with state labor conciliator Harry Benson. The settlement includes service changes and fare adjustments pending City Council and Railroad and Warehouse Commission approval.
Flames destroyed the Dakota Transfer Co terminal in Detroit Lakes Minnesota with no injuries. Mr and Mrs Albert Enselman Jr and their son Charles age 11 lived above the office and escaped with clothing. The flames broke out in the rear of the frame building and damage estimates were not yet available. The terminal owned by Oscar Janke of Detroit Lakes housed two delivery trucks.
The Interstate Commerce Commission delays the railroads planned 7 percent freight hike from Feb. 25 to March 7 to allow hearings. Protests from coal and lignite producers accompany the request for a voluntary 11 day postponement while the commission weighs the need for faster revenues to cover wage and material costs.

Minnesota's cold snap lasts another day with warmer outlook in the west. Extreme lows include Bemidji 18 below, Twin Cities 5 below, Alexandria 10 below, International Falls 17 below, St. Cloud 5 below, Rochester 13 below. Tonight may fall 10 to 20 below north and 5 below to 5 above south.

The smallest of triplets born to the 42 year old wife of an unemployed painter died in St. Joseph's Hospital in Superior. Martin Joseph Conway, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Conway, weighed 3 pounds 11 ounces and had been given the slimmest chance to survive at birth Monday.
Senator Kefauver urged repeal of union busting Taft Hartley provisions during a Minnesota stop at the Labor Temple drawing about 400 attendees. He accused the Eisenhower administration of breaking faith on labor, farm, and foreign policy, and pledged collective bargaining rights if elected. He competes with Stevenson for delegates and will tour Minnesota iron ranges March 15–16.
Fifteen army and air force generals signed an appeal urging the Santarem rebels to surrender. The offer would allow exile rather than trial or imprisonment for the four air force officers and 30 men who seized Santarem, halting Amazon Valley air and river traffic with no shots fired. President Kubitschek denied talks and vowed action. Radio O Globo was seized and returned by order of the president.

Gene Emerson, about 32, died in Rochester Minnesota hospital from burns suffered while repairing a boiler at his Elmore cleaning plant last week. After turning off the heat he opened a plug at the boiler top and was scalded when steam escaped. He is survived by his widow and three children.
The Senate may begin debate on an election year farm bill opposed by the Eisenhower administration. Sen Ellender predicts voting early next week as the chamber remains split on key issues. Benson faces sharp questions in House hearings over the soil bank and price supports.
Minneapolis police questioned a fifth man, George F. Heid, 32, arrested entering a Nicollet Avenue hotel as detectives found two sticks of dynamite in a tackle box. Heid is held without charges amid indictments of Redden Lattin Connelly and Flick in bombings targeting labor leaders and vehicles.
Edwin C. Matthias announces the retirement of J. E. Walker as general claims agent for the Great Northern Railway and the appointment of R. W. Plunkett to succeed him. Plunkett, formerly special assistant to the state attorney general, joined GN in 1947 and is nephew of Austin attorney H. V. Plunkett Sr.
