Rochford Land Co advertises fire and tornado insurance plans and a wide range of real estate. It promotes timber land open land truck farms around Austin, building property, and loans with easy payments or trades for city property.
The Ohio Attorney General filed quo warranto actions under the Valentine anti trust law to dissolve the Hocking Valley Kama tha Michigan Zanesville and Western Toledo and Ohio Central Lake Shore and Michigan Southern and Chesapeake and Ohio railroads. He seeks stock control tests, injunctions against voting stock, and eighteen grounds of misconduct including stock jobbing and favoritism to coal firms. The case contends a plan to retire preferred stock and raise common stock to aid Kanawha and Hocking Coal and Coke in forming a coal trust.
Washington reports that a bill from Rep. Miller of Minnesota would admit noncitizen settlers in Northwestern states to the court of claims for Indian depredation losses totaling up to 50000 dollars. The measure argues aliens who later seek citizenship should have standing to seek redress for property damage.
In St Paul on February 21 the county option was defeated 37 to 24 after a short debate. A substitute bill by T D O'Brien for employers liability and workers compensation was introduced by Haycraft and McGrath. A similar bill was also introduced in the house. An agricultural school bill adding twenty new high schools to the ten under the Putnam act was approved by the house committee, bringing the total to thirty.
A senate decision on a reciprocity bill with Canada is expected this month. If the count of supporters grows strong enough to defeat the measure, action will be taken. otherwise no progress is anticipated during the current session.
The Helena house paused in solemnity after Lieutenant Governor Allen announced the death of Mrs W G Conrad the wife of a senate candidate. A three member resolutions committee was formed, spectators kept quiet, and the session proceeded with no change in the senate race.
Fire broke out in a shack occupied by George Bardwell a 77 year old veteran. Firemen found Bardwell in bed with severe burns including the loss of a leg indicating he had been sleeping at the time of the blaze.

Frank Gotch of Humboldt Jr world heavyweight champion failed to throw Americus of Baltimore twice in an hour. He secured only one fall in 25 seconds and Americus withstood the champion for the remaining time.
President Taft appears to have won approval for fortifying the Panama Canal. The sundry civil bill will include a 3 million dollar allocation to start fortifications, with total costs around 11 million. Opposition centers on Tawney Hale and Speaker Cannon, but no major Senate or House challenges expected.
Indianapolis Feb 21 Samuel Gompers AFL president urged the Indiana legislature that a constructive progressive radical labor party must enter politics soon to challenge Republicans and Democrats. He warned the two old parties represent wealth and power and urged a humane third party with middle class workers and toilers guiding evolution, not revolution.
The U S Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Iowa’s 1858 law allowing an operating department employee to sue a railroad for injuries, despite the employee having received injury benefits from a relief department partly funded by the railroad.
