Tragedy Strikes Family Third Time in New Ulm

Austin Plumbers Save Albert Lea Boy From Fire
Two Austin plumbers Wilfred Ring and William Loftus rescued 12 year old Peter Gratton from a smoke filled Albert Lea building around 5 35 pm. They climbed to a lift on a garage roof and pulled the boy through a window after breaking it. The dog Tiny was found later and unharmed. Building damage was about 2000 dollars with cause not yet known.

A Polk County farmer died after his neighbor’s pickup overturned into a water-filled ditch near Gully Minnesota. Clifford Kolstrand 42 died on arrival at Bagley hospital. Orville Christianson 50 escaped injury and notified volunteers who freed Kolstrand. Autopsy planned to check for drowning. The crash lifted Minnesota’s 1957 traffic toll to 75 and followed two train automobile collisions leaving four dead.
