Dust engulfed sections of Texas Oklahoma New Mexico Kansas Nebraska and Colorado reducing visibility to zero in parts of the Texas Panhandle and forcing street lights on. Tornado alerts were issued for portions of Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas as winds reached 65 miles per hour. Schools closed in Stratford Boise City Beaver Guymon and other towns while motorists were warned to stay off highways.

Tower worker falls 60 feet in microwave tower accident
Maurice Witmer, 32, an iron worker from Runner Iowa, fell about 60 feet while near the top of a 68 foot microwave tower northwest of Austin on Highway 105. He suffered only a cut above the left eye and was held for observation at St Olaf Hospital.

In Morrill Minnesota a priest William V Tarman 44 was bound during a home loot that yielded more than 400 for a church debt. Police say Donald Beneke 24 Thomas Conroy 27 and Rodney Carson 18 were arrested in St Paul after an overnight pursuit by Morrison County officers and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents. Rocket from plane hits Girls' Academy in Des Plaines
