Gov. Freeman announced a proposed airfield will be built near Bethel, 35 miles from St. Paul and 15 miles north of Anoka. The 6940 acre site lies mainly in Anoka County with 300 acres in Isanti County. Sen. Thye predicted it could become a major North Central defense installation. Two Mankato Men Die in Highway 169 Crash
Two Mankato men L H Eavans 42 and Edward H Jones 38 died when their car collided with a semi on Highway 169 three miles south of Mankato at 12 30 am. Jones was thrown under the truck and Eavans died in the wreckage. The truck driver Francis R Grover 42 of Wentworth Wisconsin escaped injury. An inquest is set for 8 am Saturday. A separate Montevideo death reports 82 year old Swen Swenson dying after being struck by a car Thursday.

Snow Figure Falls Kill 8 Year Old at Duluth Snow Display
In Duluth Minnesota Sno Week a 10 foot snow sculpture toppled striking and killing Louise Rosenthal eight year old daughter of Dr William Rosenthal English department at the Duluth Branch Journal reports the coroner found a broken neck as the cause. The statue iced on the outside collapsed while Louise and family viewed the exhibit in front of Kirby Student Center. An unidentified passerby helped dig her from the debris and an ambulance carried her to St Luke's Hospital where she died. University officials ordered razing of four other statues and cancelled the Varsity Show awards ceremony.
