Cost estimated at 797,000 annually with 380,000 from general revenue. Four Michigan Fires Kill Four Children and Destroy Auto Sales
A spate of fires across Michigan killed four children and damaged property including the Cawood Auto Sales Co in Port Huron. In Flint a two story home fire claimed Linda Yager aged two and left Roy, three, critically burned. In Hesperia Eleanor Tolowski died trying to save her year old son, and in Pontiac Township Linda Reed and Ronald Reed perished while Myrtle Reed was severely burned trying to rescue them. Fire crews from Port Huron Sarnia and nearby communities fought the blaze aided by acetylene tank explosions. About 38 cars in the body and paint shop were destroyed and 30 new models were saved from the showroom.
