W H Truesdale, vice president and general manager of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific, accepts the presidency of the Delaware Lackawanna and Western succeeding Samuel Sloane. He will take over March 1 with rumored salary around forty thousand dollars annually. Truesdale is known as one of the nation's top railroad men.

In Lansing on February 15 the anti Pingree Republicans secured a temporary win as the Cheever Atkinson equal taxation bill, previously made a special order, was referred by a 41 to 40 vote to a joint committee. The panel combines regular taxation committees with three added representatives.

David B Jenkins, Wisconsin’s first steam locomotive maker, dead at Sheboygan. Karl Norcross of Uniontown jailed on murder-for-inheritance plot against his 10 year old brother Allen.
Des Moines reports nearly forty cases in southwestern Iowa with about sixty in Nebraska City. Health officials lifted a quarantine in Nebraska City as patients recovered, allowing travel. The disease then spread in Iowa, threatening the state with a potential severe epidemic unless action is taken promptly.
The American liner Bergenland, en route from Liverpool to Philadelphia and more than a week overdue, was spotted off the Delaware breakwater in the afternoon. The vessel is completely iced over.
