In DeKals Texas on February 14 three men died and one was wounded after a street brawl sparked by an initial shooting. B F Blocker killed Frank Pittman prompting rioters to clash with authorities. John Hughes and Joe Duke were killed and Constable Dobbins wounded during an attempted arrest.

Names include William Brockman a Richmond carriage painter found dead in bed, Albert Maples a mail carrier from Hazard near Jellico, a Perry county colored woman and her one year old child found dead in a field near Paducah, and a unnamed Negro child near Cattletburg.
The White Star liner Germanic sank at her pier on the North River in New York on February 14. Ice on both sides of the vessel and continued coal piles is blamed for the accident, causing the steamer to tilt and settle to the bottom but not suffer damage. water will be pumped out and it will be righted.
Five people were carried out by a breaking ice floe on Lake Michigan and were tied together in peril. They were drifted for hours before reaching shore at Chicago on February 14, with hopes fading for some.

The circuit court convicting Judge F E Dellenbaugh on the third specification related to the OK on the Manning divorce decree. The sentence remains undisclosed awaiting the Burke trial, and Judge Hale read the verdict as Dellenbaugh was absent.

Madison, Feb 14. After a long debate the senate moved the bill prohibiting passes to public officials to a third reading and adopted resolutions submitting to the people a constitutional amendment to that effect.
The steamship William Lawrence of the Merchants and Miners line running Baltimore to Savannah is wrecked off Port Royal South Carolina and likely a total loss. The crew abandoned ship in six boats. one boat with seven men reached Port Royal while the fate of the others is unknown.
A Cumberland dispatch reports a mountain storm of unprecedented violence lasting 48 hours with heavy drifts along the Baltimore and Ohio line. Trains on the Washington and Pittsburg division were abandoned.
A severe blizzard paralyzes New York with drifting snow stopping surface cars stalled elevated trains and limited ferry service. Broadways loses ground to wind and snow as 15000 destitute families face freezing and hunger while railroads shut down and supplies falter.

General Otis reports to the War Department the latest deaths since the last tally. Names include private Victor E. Schofield and sergeant John Sheldon among others, with causes such as variola dysentery typhoid fever and gunshot wounds. The city remained quiet as business resumes normal activity.
Lloyds agents at St Michaels Azores cable that the bulgara speaking on Feb 5 was sinking with three holds full of water rudder broken and machinery disabled. Weehawken arrived with water in bunkers and boats lost. Hamburg America co agents say latest sighting reports are gravest but hope crew and passengers were rescued by nearby steamers.
Huntsville Texas Feb 14 The east and west wings of the state penitentiary burned during the day containing prison cells and officers quarters There were no casualties as inmates were quartered in shops and other buildings
The U S collier Sterling dragged her anchors near the Delaware breakwater in a dangerous position. If the storm drives her onto the stone breakwater she may be dashed to pieces. No assistance can be rendered until the storm abates.
