Additional men are being added to the cleanup crews as authorities expect the operation to continue.
Senate consideration of the Indian appropriation bill resumed and passed with a key Pettigrew amendment. If enacted, it would restore free homestead rights on ceded Indian lands where settlers paid the Indian purchase price, allowing patents upon payment of standard fees only. The bill includes nearly five million dollars in appropriations.

London February 12 The Par nellite leader John Redmond moved an amendment to the address in reply to the throne speech. He said the reform bill for local government in Ireland would not meet the demand for an independent Irish parliament. After debate the amendment was rejected 223 to 66.
D Miller of Vermillion South Dakota sold 22 Poland China sows for 2871 dollars averaging 10750 per head to set a world record for hog prices. At the same sale A Marsh of Jesup Iowa set a record disposal price of 600 dollars for the boar Happy Union.
Rev William Cattell D D LL D longtime Lafayette College president is dead at his Philadelphia residence. Born in Salem New Jersey in 1827 he graduated Princeton College in 1843 and became a leading Presbyterian divine.
Levi P. Morton’s seven story Nassau Chambers on Nassau and Ann streets in New York City burned through the night. Firemen battled for three hours with every unit called out from Fifty ninth Street to the Battery. Several firemen were injured by glass and debris but none seriously. losses estimated at $500,000.
Wisconsin Dairymen's convention adjourned in Manitowoc with officers elected. President H. C. Taylor of Orfordsville, secretary George W. Burchard of Fort Atkinson, and treasurer H. K. Loomis of Sheboygan Falls named.

In a special session Judge Buffington denied release and kept Chris Von der Ahe in control of Detective Bender who abducted him from St. Louis. Von der Ahe will appeal and was handed to Deputy Sheriff Rice after the ruling. He plans to post the judgment money soon to secure his detention.
Topeka February 12 Webb McNall state superintendent of insurance asks companies filing 1898 reports to oathfully disclose amounts appropriated for influencing Kansas legislation and all campaign contributions in the state. He accuses firms of interfering in state politics.

Police found Mrs. Caroline Lang aged 85 and her husband Cornelius 75 at the county hospital after three days without food and a week without fire. Both are reported dying from starvation.
