Washington Feb 11 Republicans in the House decided in conference that the house statehood provision shall prevail or that no statehood legislation will be enacted by the present Congress. The measure, 112 to 3, preserves the April 1904 policy of admitting Oklahoma and Indian Territory as one state and New Mexico and Arizona as one state as proposed in bill No. 14749.
The Senate began the Swayne impeachment trial by hearing its first witness. Manager Palmer outlined the charges against Judge Swayne of Florida and expressed belief all charges would be proven. Friday's testimony focused on hotel bills paid by Swayne while presiding in Texas. The Senate schedule assigns 2 to 5 pm daily for the inquiry.
Washington February 11 The House kept a record for rapid passage of private pension bills with 403 bearing bills approved in an hour and a half.
