Avalanche kills 42 at Val d Isere ski camp in France
A powerful avalanche during a Alpine blizzard swept 800 yards down Mt Solaise hitting a vacation center at Val d Isere. Forty two died and more than 50 were injured as young guests and staff from France Belgium and West Germany were buried or crushed. Rescue efforts continued in near zero visibility amid gale winds and snows.
