In Walker Minnesota the coroner's inquest concluded Howard Sexton died from gunshot wounds fired by Walter McDonald after a confrontation in a store. The separate inquest found McDonald's death by his own hand in his home, with witnesses Deputy Harris McCabe and William Sitter.
Winona editor W G Cameron of the Republican Herald collapsed in his seat during a Winona Symphony Orchestra concert. The coroner cited heart failure. The piece notes his close friend William H Laird died in Baltimore, and Cameron wrote his editorial on that death. He was seventy five and widely regarded in the Northwest press.
In Princeton New Jersey on February 7 reports circulated that William O Proctor of Cincinnati and class of 1883 had withdrawn his 500000 gift offer for Princeton University graduate college The gift required a further 500000 raise by May 1 1910 and the abandonment of the prospective site.
An unknown man in a box car swallowed acid while seated on hay bales. As he reeled an engine bumped the car, overturning the bales and throwing him to the car floor where he broke his neck and died.

Wheat quotes show No 1 hard at 1.10 and May futures at 1.09. No 1 Northern 1.09, No 2 Northern 1.077 return '%' signs. Flax in store on track with May at 2.16 and Sept at 1.68.
Cattle good to choice steers bring 6.75 to 7.50 while fair to good run 5.00 to 6.75. Cows and heifers 4.25 to 5.25. Yearlings 5.50 to 7.26. Hogs range 8.10 to 8.30. Sheep Western 5.25 to 6.00, yearlings 6.0 to 7.0, spring lambs 7.50 to 8.25.

United States Supreme Court to hear Feb 21 arguments on whether desert land entries may be transferred before reclamation and whether grazing sheep in a forest reservation without government permission is a crime. The cases involve Granville M. Boyer and Beulah Rose Beckler with William H. Hammers and California sheepmen Pierre Grimade J. P. Carajcus and Antonio Inda. Thousands could be affected by the transfer rights under the desert land act of 1891.
Managua reports say government forces under General Vasquez won the Santo Tomas fight. One sixth of insurgents were killed or wounded, with Capt Parinilli killed and Col Miguel and Capt Navarro wounded. Navarro earlier oversaw the torture of political prisoners. General Mena led insurgents, later reinforced by Col Zeledon. Vasquez says he is pursuing the enemy and credits an ambush for the victory.
Billings Montana February 7 The UD King Chamber of Commerce will send a delegation to testify before the Senate committee on Indian affairs in support of the Dixon bill opening the Crow Indian reservation of 2 590 000 acres to settlement The chamber says opposition comes from large livestock firms wanting to keep grazing rights on the reservation
Twelve thousand acres of state lands were auctioned at Bozeman courthouse by Joseph Oker. The sale yielded over 250000 dollars to the state. Land was unimproved and non irrigated. The top bid was 51.50 per quarter section by John Schmanack of Friend Nebraska for land near Manhattan.
President Madriz opposes the planned 8000 Sioux transplantation from South Dakota to Nicaragua. Chief Little Bison, with Mrs Little Bison, evaded Costa Rican surveillance and met General Estrada in Bluefields. Estrada hopes the war may end within six weeks with Indian support aiding the insurgents.

Vatican officials sought to avert offense amid Catholics' concerns about Methodist proselytizing. Fairbanks persisted, choosing to honor his Methodist address over a papal audience.
Washington February 7 Republican leaders fear separate house and senate investigations into the cost of basic goods could yield differing reports embarrassing to the party. The senate plan under Lodge would form a seven member committee with Elkins potentially serving, while the house Ways and Means inquiry may not proceed. The effort aims to frame the tariff and merchant practices as less culpable and to influence upcoming elections. President Taft is said to want the tariff’s effects on necessities clarified.
Gas fumes issued from a bedroom at 388 North Exchange Street left Miss Julia Obsall unconscious. Landlady Mrs. C Lang found her. she was taken to St Joseph hospital in critical condition with little hope for recovery. Police and doctors seek the cause of the exposure.
The Alaska Steamship company ship Farallon wrecked on a reef near Iliamna Bay. Six crew members are believed dead while attempting to reach relief for passengers. Passengers and other crew were rescued and arrived on the steamer Victoria on February 3.
A blaze at the Quaker Shade Roller company in Bay City Michigan damaged the main factory building, with estimated losses around 100000 dollars. Firefighters battled the flames as the structure suffered partial destruction.
Mrs Solomon Klein earned hero honors after entering a blazing tenement to carry three small children to safety. Firemen had directed thirteen families to safety and all occupants were accounted for as flames surged over the bed where the children slept. She wrapped her head in a man's coat, pinned on a bonnet, and carried the kids down the stairs.
Miss Matilda Kunesh aged twenty two died from severe burns after a match head ignited gasoline on cellar steps at Robert B Burns Lumber Co home in St Paul. Burns, her rescuer and head of the household, sustained severe burns while trying to save her and escaped through flames.
Boonton New Jersey February 7 fire at the local Westinghouse Electric plant destroyed facilities and caused an estimated 240000 dollars in damage. No injuries were reported and cause is under investigation.
Lakota North Dakota February 7 The Peopl es State bank shortage totals 91000 official figures show the bank closed by state examiner Oliver Knudson amid speculation. President F A Rad ders and cashier S A Floren were jailed on forgery charges and bound over to district court with 7500 bail. Depositors likely to recover around 25 percent as investigations continue.
Washington reports a radical bill by Representative Sabbath to replace current employer liability with fixed compensation annuities for injured workers in railroads and related trades. The measure would overturn existing laws and draw scrutiny from the House judiciary committee with a February 17 hearing. It cites English and German precedents and notes favorable views from Roosevelt and Taft.
Eleven miners were killed in the Jefferson and Clearfield Coal and Iron mine No. 2 at Ernest after a powerful blast. Seven bodies had been recovered, ten of the dead were Hungarian and one American. Bert Redford the assistant secretary of the Railroad Y M C A was shot and killed in the Southern railway depot association rooms by John W Cash a flagman with the Southern railway. The fatal quarrel arose when Cash monopolized the telephone.
Congress will soon consider a federal incorporation act drafted under President Taft and his cabinet. The bill bars cross holdings among corporations, bans banking powers, and allows charter changes by Congress or the attorney general. It requires financial reporting, director residency, and detailed property payment disclosures for stock issued for property.
Phoenix, Feb 7. A gasoline car carrying seven aboard struck a blasting fuse of a dynamit e charge along the Kelvin Ray copper mine road and was blown to atoms. The dead include J B Joyce A S Bieber J C Griffin R P Coleman W H Freeland Walter C Frenz and W H Lyalle all prominent in Arizona mining circles.
