A All-Nippon Airways Boeing 727 crashed into Tokyo Bay on Friday night. Three bodies recovered with no survivors expected. 133 aboard all Japanese. The plane vanished six to eight miles from Tokyo International Airport after reporting instrument failure. Weather clear at disappearance. Debris and a seat found, crews searched through night.
Senate Democrats led by Mike Mansfield filed a cloture petition to end the filibuster on the union shop bill The measure seeks to repeal Taft Hartley Section 14B and has 22 Democrats and one Republican signer Jacob Javits The vote on cloture is automatic next Tuesday with potential follow up votes if needed creating a high stakes test for the controversial proposal.
CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP Luna 9's successful soft landing shows the Soviet ability to explore the moon and raises pressure on the U S Surveyor program which aims for a May touchdown. Officials caution it does not crown any side the overall lunar lead as Apollo plans proceed.

A Dade County sheriff's technician testified that a single palm print was found on a kitchen counter in Candace Messler's Key Biscayne apartment, amid the Mossler murder trial. The print is being compared to Melvin Lane Powers, charged with Messler and his aunt in June 1964 slaying.

In New York two Wisconsin men pleaded innocent to unlawful interstate transportation of uninspected meat in a horsemeat scandal. Bail set at 5000 dollars each for Buster Lea and Thomas C Barr with motions scheduled for February 28.
Jodrell Bank observer Sir Bernard Lovell reported sensational Luna 9 images of rocks and a moon surface shadow of the lander. He said the pictures suggest a firm surface and potential for future Russian missions including a tractor vehicle, possible orbital manned flight, and automated launches from the moon.
