Two unemployed laborers George Kirkmyer and Sans Valentine carried out a death by own action pact in a Minneapolis motel by inhaling gas. They faced money woes and had discussed the deed. friends initially treated it as a joke. Three women and two children died of cold at Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Grand Rapids, Feb 4 A woman and two children were found frozen to death in an upstairs tenement. A third child in an adjoining room was badly frozen but alive. The family resided with Miss Livingston, their aunt, and were last seen Thursday. coal gas and a dying fire are blamed for the tragedy.
In Cleveland Ohio a gasoline lamp exploded in the home of Mary Gardner Masterson seriously injuring her and burning John Burke, aged twenty two, to death. The blast occurred on February 4 and left Burke fatally burned and Masterson badly burned.
Burke was visiting a young woman on Twenty-sixth Street when a lamp exploded, enveloping them in flames. The woman likely will recover. The room held many fine paintings, including one valued at $1,900, all badly damaged by the blast.
In New York on February 4 John Liveroni and his wife, residents of Fast Eighteenth street, were found asphyxiated in the morning. The bodies were discovered by their young children. Mrs Liveroni lay in bed while Mr Liveroni sat fully dressed in a chair by the bedside. Police believe a death by own action pact occurred or that Liveroni, despondent over unemployment, turned on the gas after his wife slept.
In Auburn New York Asa Kenyon of Onenta and Mrs Marie Derick of Syracuse drank laudanum in a hotel room. Derick died while Kenyon survives and is under arrest. Kenyon said they forced themselves to die due to being tired of living.
In New York on February 4 a wedding in progress was halted when a stranger, believed to be Alderice Hugron of Waterbury, Connecticut, shot himself in the doorway of the apartment where guests had gathered. The bride and many women guests reacted with hysteria as the tragedy unfolded.
The sheriff receives word that avid Aho a young Finnish resident near Tivoli on the Duluth Missabe and Northern line shot and killed his mother after a dispute over drinking. Police said Mrs Aho challenged his drinking and the clash led to the tragedy.

In Violetville Maryland fourteen year old Carl Noweck sacrificed his life to rescue Albert Schmidt who had fallen through thin ice while skating. Noweck reached Schmidt but the ice broke and both boys drowned. Spectators on shore failed to act in time. The bodies were recovered.
Minneapo lis Feb 4 Valdeman Mortenson sixteen year old son of Mrs Johanna Mortenson of 3232 Sixteenth avenue south was killed instantly in an elevator accident at the Journal building. He either jumped or fell and was crushed between platform and floor leaving almost every bone in his body broken.
Washington news reports both chambers will devote this week to appropriation bills. The Senate handles the Italian bill and Indian Territory issues. the House works on the river and harbor bill and later the army and naval bills. Wide differences are expected on each measure.
Southbound Southern Pacific No. 15 derailed at 6 am one and a half miles north of Dunningan likely due to a broken rail. Express Messenger Charles F. Farles was killed and assistant A. Smith injured. several passengers shaken. Farles, famed for handling two holdups and three wrecks, recently distinguished himself in an Oregon robbery by defending the train with a shotgun.

St Paul on February 2 lists cattle prices for good to choice steers 5.50 to 6.25, common to good 4.00 to 5.00, cows and heifers 3.50 to 4.75, veals 4.50 to 6.00. Hogs 6.70 to 6.80. Sheep and lambs showers and spring lambs 4.75 to 5.25 and 6.50 to 7.25 respectively.
In Duluth on February 2 wheat presents as on track with No 1 hard at 82 54 to 83 54 cents and No 1 Northern around 82 4 to 82 8 cents with May July and September futures listed. Flax shows arrival and storage at about 1.24 to 1.25 dollars for May and July contracts.
