Basic training in South Vietnam accelerates as more local men undergo combat preparation. The process supports the Vietnamization effort by increasing indigenous forces and reducing reliance on American troops.
White House backed compromise nears an agreement to create a semi independent postal authority. Postal unions mostly noncommittal though one leader says Nixon buys them off too cheaply. The ACLU reports Black Panthers suffer illegal police harassment and civil liberties violations in nine metro areas while finding no evidence of a federal conspiracy. The Democratic National Committee plans a February five Miami Beach dinner linked to sixteen regional dinners by closed circuit TV.
