Holiday Death Toll in State Rises With Nine Fatalities

Minnesota’s Christmas weekend brought nine accidental deaths, including seven traffic fatalities. Armed robbers steal nearly 10000 from Minnesota farmers

Three farm dwellers near Alvarado, Minnesota, were robbed at pistol point Christmas Eve. The Glad Hagman family and Carl Johnson faced two armed intruders for over two hours, then locked in a 6 by 3 foot closet. Losses totaled about 10,000 with Minnie Hagman at 4000, Hagman at 5000, and Johnson at 500.

Destruction by Flood Destroys Humboldt County Towns

AP reporter Bill Chambers describes ten days of rains and floods in Humboldt County California. Klamath and Klamath Glen are ruined with up to 12 feet of water in downtown streets. Bridges washed away, roads undermined, many homes lost. About 2,000 people made homeless and numerous deaths reported.

Waltham Liquor Store Robbery Marks Third of Year

Five Austin youths, about 16, were arrested in a Christmas Day burglary that netted 75 dollars from the George Kraushaar farm nine miles southwest of Austin. They confessed to property damage at two schools and incidents at a vacant farm and the Martin Bustad office and warehouse. Sheriff Reinartz said the Kraushaars were hosting Christmas dinner when Mrs Kraushaar found a car and trespassers in the yard.

Burglars Hit Waltham Stores Three Times This Year

Thieves broke into the Waltham Liquor Store and two other local businesses on Monday night, raising this year’s cash loss to 1361 dollars. They pried doors, rifled safes, and stole whiskey, cigarettes, coins, and small change across all sites. Local managers Walter Schnirring and Owen Ericksen said the sheriff is investigating with at least three men involved.
