A severe blaze gutted a large factory complex in New York City, causing heavy losses to structures and equipment. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, with officials reporting extensive damage and investigations into the blaze. Local workers were displaced as buildings suffered major damage.
New York on December 26 five alarms sent thirty-two fire companies and nine precincts fought a blaze gutting the six story factory at 102 104 106 Wooster Street. Damage estimated around 500000 with some figures noting up to 400000. five firemen injured but continued work. No one inside the building. origin undetermined. About a dozen girls worked nearby and escaped to the street.
Minneapolis dispatch reports city detectives and police locking up two men, Thomas Burns and John Hanley, as prime suspects in the brutal murder of Charles O. Bader at his hotel and saloon on Second Street. Mayor Jones offers a $500 reward for the capture and conviction as investigators press the case.
Also promised to confer with Governor John A. Johnson and endeavor to persuade him to offer a like reward to stir up interest in the case.
Philadelphia dispatch reports United Mine Workers President John Mitchell has written to anthracite coal company presidents seeking a conference over miners demands to continue work in the hard coal fields. The letter also outlines a push for an eight hour day and the creation of a new fully in session conciliation board to settle disputes, a proposal likely to face operator opposition.
About 100000 skilled workers in New York building trades welcomed trade agreements signed by most unions, excluding house smiths and bridgemen. Wages rise for house carpenters by 30 cents daily and cabinetmakers by 22 cents, with most trades maintaining current pay next year. Agreements start January 1, shifting from May.
Edward C Wetherell of George D. Wetherell & Co. paint manufacturers shot himself twice in the evening and died early the next morning. The motive is not publicly known and his family declined to discuss the matter.
In Philadelphia on December 26 Joseph Pollock aged 22 of 138 West Cumberland Street killed his father William Pollock with a blow to the face after defending his mother during a quarrel. News reaches Omaha that Simon B. Clark a famed Nebraska pioneer and longtime plainsman was slain in a bear attack after his horse arrived at Adams ranch on December 21 Adams followed the trail into the mountains and found Clark’s mangled body near a cave with two dead grizzlies nearby Clark an old soldier and public official in Omaha had hunted in the Big Horn region for weeks.
In Los Angeles on December 26, the Sherman Indians defeated St Vincent college 30 to 0 in the season finale. The game featured two serious injuries, including a broken collarbone for H Wilhout of St Vincent and two broken ribs for L Lugo of the Indians, and a run of 107 yards noted as a possible long in Southern California football history.

Raymond Prefontaine, Canadian minister of marine and fisheries, died suddenly in Paris on December 26 after heart trouble worsened during a banquet. He had recently arrived with Randolphe Lemieux to discuss a Marseilles to Canadian ports steamship line. Despite illness he kept engagements until lodging at the Hotel Continent where a choking sensation followed a medicine dose and he expired after last rites.
Three youths died in Louisville during a Christmas celebration. Eight year old Thresa Housman was killed by a ball cartridge among rifle blanks fired by neighbor George Doll. Fourteen year old George Irving Harper died when a cannon charge exploded from a tampered device. Ella Barrett, a Black girl, was fatally shot by a stray revolver bullet during the revelry.
Fire at 4 a.m. in Drayton North Dakota gutted the Cockburn & Co drugstore in a brick building owned by George A. McCrea. Immigrant Andreas Stockberger recounts the Odessa bloodshed blaming Jewish mobs for attacking troops. He describes marching troops, a howling mob with weapons, bombs from rooftops, and widespread killings and injuries as soldiers countered with bayonets and gunfire.

In Barcelona on December 26 an assailant who tried to stab Cardinal Salvator Cassanos Pages, bishop of Urgel, after he left the cathedral, killed himself by poison shortly after arrest.
In East St. Louis Illinois on December 26 a freight train backing into a streetcar caused a fatal incident and four injuries. The dead man was John Daugherty of St Louis. Injured include H C Prema of Virginia City Nebraska F B Hathaway and George Walters of East St Louis. The streetcar was badly damaged and the crew said no rear lights or warnings were visible.
Tangier December 26 The sultan of Morocco refuses to agree to holding the international conference on Moroccan reforms at Madrid rather than Algeciras.
In Little Rock Arkansas on December 26 a fire broke out in a livery stable and quickly spread, destroying an entire block. Firefighters struggle to gain control as flames threaten nearby buildings and harbor danger to residents and businesses in the area.
Sioux City on December 26 reports John Southwind a giant Winnebago Indian wandered the city at night after drinking firewater. He was found the next morning on a sand bank frozen to death.
Dewey issued a Christmas greeting to officers and men of the navy urging a united stand for country and service. Messages were read aboard ships and sent by wireless telegraphy, directed by Admiral Manney, with readings from Washington to New Orleans Colon and San Juan.
A group of Austrian miners at the Pioneer location in Ely celebrated Christmas when a quarrel over a girl led Van Itis to draw a knife and attack. John Kan Anton Horn and Joe Gredenice were seriously cut. Gredenice may die from a groin wound. Kandell and Hern sustained severe injuries but were not believed to be fatal. John Cow and his friend Andrew, recent arrivals from Russia, were found dead after igniting gas illumination and blowing it out. A separate tragedy claimed five year old Sadie O Neill who burned while clothes caught fire from a Christmas tree in East One Hundred street.
Grand Island Nebraska December 26 Gaee Poell county clerk elect received a letter from President Roosevelt confirming the first Medal of Honor issued under the February 23 1905 act for conspicuous bravery. Poell a locomotive fireman saved a child from a moving locomotive and was severely injured in the act.
Charles H. Hansen a farmer and his eight year old daughter Edna were instantly killed when struck by a Reading railroad express train at Camp Hill just north of Philadelphia after visiting relatives for Christmas.
