Three Ammerman Children Perish In Minnesota Fire

Graceville authorities report a Christmas Eve blaze at the George Ammerman home on Toqua Lake killed Dale 6 Wayne 3 and Joyce 10 while parents George and Mrs Ammerman shopped in Fargo for gifts. Surviving children Trudy 15 and Linda 13 watched as firefighters battled the flames. The oil burner likely exploded and spread fire to nearby homes.

Iraq defies Soviet pressure to back Western pact

Premier Nuri Said vowed Iraq will stay with the U S backed Baghdad Pact despite Arab criticism from Cairo Damascus and others. He said opposition aims to destroy Iraq and insisted the nation would remain in the alliance with Turkey Pakistan Iran and Britain amid martial law and political prosecutions. Fire Victim Family Receives Community Aid Drive

Graceville Minnesota and local residents launched a contribution drive for the George Ammerman family who lost three children and all possessions in a Sunday night house fire. Dr I L Oliver urged outsiders to help and asked donations be sent to the First State Bank in Graceville.

Man Dies After Scaffold Fall in New Home

Darrell Rasmussen 31 of Blooming Prairie died this afternoon after a heart attack while plastering a new home at Ellis and Decker. Early reports said he fell from a scaffold on the first floor into the basement.

Hunters Wipe Out Deer on S D Farm

At a 65 acre cornfield along the Big Sioux River in Baltic South Dakota hunters wiped out a deer herd the farmer Joe Gunderson tried to protect. Humphrey to Request Funds for State Lab

Senator Humphrey of Minnesota said he will seek 1.35 million dollars in the new Congress to fund a Bureau of Mines research laboratory in Minnesota. Car Skids Into Train Kills Duluth Father

A Duluth father Louis A. Young 30 died after his car skidded into a Soo Line passenger train while returning from taking his two sons to school. The icy pavement caused the collision about 60 feet from the crossing in Duluth. Police and ambulance crews found Young pinned in wreckage. The Minnesota traffic toll rose to 602 for 1956 with this death. John Charles Swanson 41 of White Bear Lake died when his car left U.S. 61 south of White Bear Lake and rolled over.
