Eleven Men Rescued From Sinking Vessel Off Miami
A Coast Guard plane and a tanker rescued eleven men from the 104-foot motor vessel Monster after it sank 75 miles northeast of Miami in a storm. Captain William C. Alvers said the crew endured two hours of rough seas and kept morale up with jokes as they rode in a lifeboat. The Monster, owned by Thompson Construction Co of St. Petersburg, sank three miles west of Great Isaac light in the Bahamas after signaling water flooding the engine room and other compartments.
