Taft at a McKinley memorial organ dedication in Metropolitan temple affirmed that McKinley’s Philippine policy of benevolent assimilation would guide his own administration. He recalled his 1900 appointment to help establish a government in the islands and praised McKinley’s restraint and vision amid criticism. The services and speeches, with Andrew Carnegie and John J.
