Explosion Rocks Western Gas Light Plant in Southeast Washington
An explosion at the Western Gas Light company plant in Southeast Washington caused $150,000 in damages. The double building housing the machine room and its machinery was demolished. Night watchman H. C. Grady, night engineer Thomas Woods, and oiler John Deming were inside. Woods was thrown from the building and escaped serious injury, while Grady and Deming were slightly hurt. Mother and Son Convicted in Sheriff Killing Case
In Centerville Missouri on December 9 the jury found William Spaugh guilty of first degree murder and Mrs Mary Spaugh guilty of second degree murder. Mrs Spaugh was sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary. Arthur Spaugh received a separate trial that was continued to May. Sheriff Polk was shot at the Spaugh home while serving a warrant for William on a misdemeanor charge.
