In southern Minnesota villages Adams and Rose Creek voters produced clear results. Adams rejected a drink-by-the-glass liquor sale proposal 177 to 80. Rose Creek defeated a salary raise for mayor and council members 30 to 24, from 30 to 125 dollars.
Voters stayed home in Minnesota municipal elections with few issues. Bemidji saw Mayor Fred Troppman lose to Virgil Heathman 672 to 292, while Charles Sievek defeated Harold South 79 to 53 for the council seat. Other towns reported low turnout and mixed results across bids for mayor, council, and village offices.
In Rose Creek Minnesota a referendum to raise salaries for mayor and council failed by six votes. The mayor would have risen from 30 to 120 and council from 20 to 100 annually, with results 30 to 24. John T. Schmidt was re elected clerk 43 votes, Gerhart Werner 11, John Johnson trustee 50 votes, Werner two votes here. No assessor chosen yet as Myrtle Carlson 13 and John Ramson 12 votes, neither accepting office.
AT T and the Communications Workers of America announced a new contract covering about 25 000 long distance operators and 42 states plus Washington D C The deal provides weekly wage increases from 2 50 to 3 for 10 500 operators and from 3 50 to 5 for plant craftsmen Salaries vary by location The old contract expired on November 28 and ratification by the union is required before it takes effect The agreement runs through January 3 1968 Decisive bargaining followed a 23 hour session beginning Tuesday morning
Adams Minnesota voters reject liquor by the drink in an advisory referendum by 177 no to 80 yes. The advisory result may guide the Village Council though it is not binding. Incumbents were reelected in the regular vote: Eu gene Heimer trustee 230 votes Wallace Johnson clerk 234 E N Johnson assessor 239 Earl S Erkenbrack justice of the peace 210 B Lewiston constable 231.
In Dexter Minnesota a 2 to 1 referendum approved raising the mayor’s pay from 30 to 75 dollars annually and the council member’s pay from 20 to 50 dollars. The vote was 30 to 13 for the mayor and 29 to 14 for the council with 46 voters turnout. Incumbents were re elected including F H Bruhn clerk Ed Walterman trustee William Douty assessor Henry DeBoer constable and William Douty justice of the peace.
WALTHAM Minn two incumbents win contested village races Marvin Buck defeats Fred Fett for village clerk 56 to 29 Lynn Persinger Jr defeats Wallace Wendorf 70 to 18 In uncontested posts Robert Larson assessor and Leonard Fossum justice of the peace receive 39 and 20 votes respectively A total of 88 votes were cast.
Roger Griffin defeated Charles Arthur Roeder for the Stewartville Council seat vacated by L. C. Walters. Griffin 261 votes, Roeder 226. In the clerk’s race, incumbent Herb Horton defeated a challenger.

Adlai E Stevenson announced he will not run for the presidency again, planning to return to private law practice in Chicago in January. He said his party interest remains undiminished and will aid a new party program through the DNC advisory group. Kefauver, his running mate, indicated he plans to stay active as a senator while others may pursue the 1960 nomination.

British Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd told the House of Commons there was no agreement or incitement by Britain for Israel to invade Egypt. He acknowledged awareness of possible trouble and rejected claims of collusion with Israel on frontier incidents.
A pilot and radar observer from Kinross Air Force Base are missing after their F89D Scorpion jet crashed in a snow filled swamp about 20 miles southwest of Sault Ste. Marie Michigan on Tuesday night. A search team probed the wreckage through the night but found no trace of the crew.
Austin Council offered 12 cents cash rise and 3 cents for hospitalization benefits to UAW Local 867 members. Workers asked for 20 cents per hour plus improved benefits and rejected the proposal. The wage issue will top tonight’s council meeting as it prepares a new city budget.
St. Cloud Minnesota report: six months old Billy Ruhr, son of Mr and Mrs Don ald Ruhr, born with two teeth, had a third tooth pulled after it became loose. The tooth was removed by a dentist following a recent loosening incident.
Russell Shoppa, a 29 year old Muscatine resident, waded into ice cold water up to his chest to reach Gloria Allensworth six and Cynthia Custer four who had fallen through a Muscatine slough ice. He broke a path 30 feet through ice until reaching the children and pulling them to safety.
Hungarian police aided by Russian orders dispersed a mass protest outside the U S Embassy in Budapest. About 2,500 women protested with bouquets and flags, some children were involved, and Russian tanks blocked access to the Sandor Petofi monument before wreaths were laid.
