In Purcell Oklahoma 3000 spectators watched Peter Carter a Black man burned to death on a brush pile in the town main street after being identified as who attacked Mrs Minnie Spraggins wife of a farmer. Deputies were overpowered when attempting to rescue him and locked in the courthouse. The Spraggins home was set on fire after the assault.
Following a money dispute Ross Young and Merrit Young fought a quarrel on a Beresford area farm. Merrit, who borrowed funds, shot Ross from a tree and then killed himself. Ross lies critically injured, with doctors hoping for his recovery.
Former Justice Henry A. Gildersleeve draws John W. Gates will revealing an estate of 30 to 40 million dollars. The bulk goes to his widow and his son Charles G. Gates in equal shares. Other beneficiaries include relatives friends and former employees totaling about 1 million dollars in legacies.
