Woman, 74, Found Safe After 4 Days Missing

Mrs Ann Fromberg 74, missing four days in Culver area northwest of Duluth, found alive at 11 30 am. An ambulance ferried her to hospital. Deputies and volunteers conducted an arm length search near William Larson farm where she is employed.

Russ Airliner Crashes in Copenhagen

A twin engined Ilyushin 14 from Moscow and Riga to Copenhagen plunged into Copenhagen Harbor after clipping a chimney. Twenty three people died including one American. all survivors were accounted for in a crash with sixteen bodies recovered. Three West Germans, two Britons, a Norwegian and an American were listed among the non Russians aboard.

Buildings and Crops Damaged in Storm

A storm with hurricane velocity winds and a possible tornado swept from South Dakota into Minnesota causing downed lines, uprooted trees, and damaged buildings and crops. Injuries occurred near Ortonville as a barn collapsed while a farmer attempted to reach a tractor. Damage extended to Big Stone City and northeastern South Dakota.

Austin Man 41 Dies in Highway 218-S Crash

A 41 year old Austin man, Marc Jancourt, died from injuries after a motorcycle sideswiped a northbound car on Highway 218 S just north of the outdoor theater. The collision injured four minors, who will face illegal possession charges. Jancourt, a worker at Geo A Hormel & Co, leaves a wife Marie and parents Leiby and Mrs Jancourt. Funeral services set for Monday at Worlern Funeral Home.

Dio Charged With Income Tax Evasion

New York racketeer Johnny Dio and bodyguard Theodore Ray faced secret indictments for income tax evasion and conspiracy. Dio allegedly hid 63,333 dollars and dodged 20,168 in taxes for 1950 to 1952, while Ray evaded 407 dollars for 1950. Ray’s alias Riy was used in the case.

Woman 70 Survives 17 Hours Float on Mattress

Ruth Nelson a 70 year old grandmother from Bradenton Florida and 17 year old Bill Dozier of Sarasota were rescued after floating on a mattress for 17 hours in Caribbean seas near Miragoane Haiti during a storm aboard the prayer cruise schooner Janeen. They clung to the mattress prayed and were eventually saved by a fishing boat and returned to the vessel.
